If you’re like me, you were a bit taken ablack when you heard this rumor. I thought, what the heck is going on ever there at BET. The rumor is that either The Mo’Nique Show has low ratings or that there is in-fighting over money. I would tend to think that the latter is the biting issue. Consider this, if it wasn’t for 106 & Park and The Game, I doubt if anyone would be watching any of BET’s programming, considering that it serves up daily, nothing but repeats and reruns–which, of course, is redundant–which, of course, is exactly my point.
I know that some people will claim that Mo’Nique is not every woman. Her style can come off as a little “hood.” But considering that this woman has the ability to wrap her arms around anything and anyone and show it genuine love makes her not an every woman but an especially unique woman.
Considering that comedians Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, David Letterman, George Lopez and all the rest get to act as crazy and foolish as they like (and survive undoubtedly low ratings), I wouldn’t be so quick to throw away the only Oscar-winning host we have who happens to be Black and female.
If you are a person of color, one of your most common complaints may be that you don’t get to see or hear from enough people who look like you. The most outstanding feature of Mo’Nique’s show is that she does exactly that! Keep on doing it, Mo’Nique!
I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to go back to the status quo. If this rumor blackslides into the truth, it really bites! Tell me what you think!
