This evening, Clevelanders were stunned to learn that two teenagers and a twenty-year-old woman who went missing over ten years ago were found alive.  In their own neighborhood.  Right in their own backyard.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight were rescued today when Charles Ramsey heard Amanda screaming for help to open the door she was kicking to free herself and the others.

Charles Ramsey, an African American male, was tearful when he described how he told Amanda to “just unlock the door” and she explained that she could not and needed his help.  He said once the girls–who are now women–were safe in his home next door, a 911 dispatcher accused him of playing a hoax on the phone when he said Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus were not dead–as everyone sadly suspected–but very much alive.  And standing next to him in his home.

The scene on 2207 Seymour Avenue was of shock coupled with jubilation.

For many, most could not think of a better gift for mother’s day than to return these “girls” to their families.

Family, friends,  local anchors and even local authorities could not hold back tears of joy–and remorse.  Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight were not alone when they escaped.  Their children were with them–believed to be fathered by their captor(s).  However, exact details have not been released.

When Amanda spoke to 911 herself, she reportedly said, “I am Amanda Berry.  I’m right here.  I am free now!”  Cleveland has been buzzing and throbbing with an overwhelming excitement ever since, knowing that this story really has only just begun.
